Rework nodes to use Single Ports with Multiple flag set

Instead of mis-using the multiple port protocol we should use the single protocol with the multiple flag set.
This allows greater flexibility in the way the node is used and also allows us to set e.g. colors for the button grid using the color protocol with the multiple flag.
