Why does Firefox installed in WSL2 on Windows 11 have a box when opened, How can I remove this box? #12603

Repro Steps

  1. root@DESKTOP-ILBE48G:~# snap install firefox
  2. root@DESKTOP-ILBE48G:~# firefox

Expected Behavior

Why does Firefox installed in WSL2 on Windows 11 have a box when opened, while it doesn't on another computer? How can I remove this box?

Invoke-WebRequest -UseBasicParsing "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/microsoft/WSL/master/diagnostics/collect-wsl-logs.ps1" -OutFile collect-wsl-logs.ps1
Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Scope Process -Force
.\collect-wsl-logs.ps1

The script will output the path of the log file once done.

If this is a networking issue, please use collect-networking-logs.ps1, following the instructions here

Once completed please upload the output files to this Github issue.

Apparently the WSL2 Wayland compositor doesn't support client-side decorations. I can't imagine that's high priority.

Hello @Holinc19,

Firefox was not able to connect to the Wayland server, and it is failing back to Xorg, which is managed by XWayland who is producing this frame. See this error:

You can see that this Firefox is installed as a snap; maybe the other one was installed directly instead of a snap (just a guess).

@batonac this is because it is using XWayland.
