The current panel setup allows toggling panels in fixed positions (left, right, top, or bottom) over the editor. Introducing a new "detached panel" mode, which can be freely resized and positioned anywhere, would offer significant flexibility.

For example, when toggling the terminal (bottom panel default) on a wide monitor, developers often need to shift their focus down and to the right. A detached panel, however, could be centered and resized to a smaller width, reducing unnecessary eye and head movement.

Ideally, this feature could apply to any panel (i.e. terminal, file tree, etc.), allowing maximum configuration flexibility for different workflows.
