Bugfixapalooza

Probably should release all those bugfixes I've got queued up.

Ruby 1.8 support

Only a few things needed to be changed for Ruby 1.8 support, so why not?

First official release

Now that I've got dependencies on other gems, the easiest way to distribute
this is as a gem.

This release is mostly about thin snapshot support (yay!), and the start of
some refactoring to make this more of a well-engineered piece of software,
and less of a quick hacky script.
