obviously there is no maintenance on this product - last commit several years ago, pending PR for a while

is really no one out there able and willing to maintain this wonderful product?
I really like it, use it and it would be great to see some progress

I never did it yet, I'd suppose like this:
download it as zip, or clone it and make sure that you checked out the dev-branch, afterwards proceed as described in the readme

Please note that I haven't tested the 64 bit version. I'm still using the 32 bit Notepad++ for unknown reasons.
