When setting the default value, like humidity for a (de)humidifier or eco or comfort for a climiate, the entity is not turned on. #410

Proposal

Seems to me fairly strange that I can turn on a device without specifying its working mode, and when I am specifying its working mode it does not turn on. For a climate, probably I want to turn it off, or put it in a preconfigured state, but ON; instead now I can put in eco, comfort or boost, but it will remain off. The same with (de)humidifier, I can set their humidity but they will remain off. This is particularly disturbing for those kind of entities that sometimes reset their state at off even when they were set off.

It would be good to have like a checkbox to choose if to turn on the device too.

Can OP close this awful issue? Reason:

  • you don't even know what you want, because you use the word "probably".

If you can't write a specification for a feature, don't bother asking for a feature.

If you want to discuss your "ideas" go to the Home Assistant forum and once you have something of any substance, propose something of any substance.

Of course, you don't want to hear this. You want to hear how great of an idea it is, but it is not.

Sorry. I was in the idea that GitHub was a "place" born and grew to keep the source code of some projects and their issues and feature requests all together, where to discuss ideas and come out sometimes with shared designs. I don't see the point to go in a separated forum, discuss with people not involved in the project, even fully design the feature outside of here, just because you would like feature requests that have "substance".

Moreover, I am even not and English mother tongue, so that "probably", that disturbed you so much, in fact was meaning that when I am setting the operating mode of a climate or (de)humidifier entity there should be the possibility to turn it on too, cause there is a high probability outside there that people are creating simple schedules and would like this two events to go together. This possibility can be expressed with a checkbox on the UI, but the developer is free to find the more suiting way to express it, I don't want to step into the UI design of someone else.

So, I hope you understand that I'm not here to design the feature, I was here to give an idea on which we can elaborate together. The owner of the project can close the feature request and ignore it if it doesn't like this way of working.

You, instead, do you have something useful to add?

Ideas for new features are worthless when the old features don't work yet.
