Submitting chat entries programmatically

I would like to be able to set a chat message and submit programmatically. The use case is that I want to load a conversation, including a next message, and then submit and allow the user to see the streaming response. Is this possible? Thanks!

We had a similar request a while ago.

We have the intention to add an API to perform imperative actions on <AiChat /> that cannot be easily performed with classic React-style state driven UI.

The API might have the following form:

const adapter = useChatAdapter();
const apiRef = useAiChatApi();

<AiChat adapter={myAdapter} api={apiRef} />

And you can use that API ref to perform some imperative actions, such as:

apiRef.current.submitPrompt({ ... });
apiRef.current.retrieveChatHistory({ ... });

This is only a proposal.
