Thanks for posting this awesome project.
I am currently designing my first build.
Would like to base it on this design.

Do you have some lessons learned?
Are there some items you would change the second time??

Want to fork this to incorporate the following mods:

  • Use the Mxledbit for rgb underglow for the keys. (also hotswappable)
  • use acrylic bottom plate for underglow effect.
  • Add trackpoint stick

not much really the build was pretty straight forward. If I had to do it again I would do the same.
I am interested to see how you go about integrating the trackpoint - I toyed with the idea, but I don't like the massive ball, and would rather have it where the right potentiometer is.

I used similar small PCB in an other build, and at the end of the day I found it easier to just full hand wire.

I would assume as well that the stl files wouldn't be sutable for PCB mount.

Glad to hear that!
I've had a lot of problems by getting the generator of joshreve or the wylderbyld up and running.
(mainly deu to Cadquery issues)
Did'nt want any more delays, so I dropped the idea of integrating a trackball.
Used your STL files and placed an order for the prints at treatstock.com.

Instead of the trackball, I'm going to attempt to include a trackpoint:

that is an interesting idea. I would love to see https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/trackball-breakout?variant=27672765038675
being integrated (just below the screen for example)
anyhow, good luck for the build and share the results :)

That is also an very interesting trackball. I have seen that one it integrated in a dactyl somewhere. Sorry, dont have a link, from what I remember the resolution was'nt that great.

I've got some comments back from the printshop.

The exportation (to stl format) seems a bit low resolution (number of polygons) and the print adds a small approximation

First challenge!! Fitting problems! 😿

The Kahil switches does'nt seem to fit the wholes correctly.
The wholes are just a tad too small.
Did you also encounter this in your build??

The width of the socketholes is correct, But the length is just a tad too small.

Detail from the inside.

The fit is really poor. Not sure, if I can use this print at all.
Probably have to use a dremel on all the wholes. Sounds like a lot of work!

The plastic clamping piece at the red arrow is pressed a bit too much.
(That piece has notches on it, propably designed to snap into place in a more detailed profile. So the switch cannot move up and down in the socket.)

Also in the corners at the green arrows the fit is too thight.

hello, that's odd - looks like the printing company changed the dimensions slightly. I didn't have those issues and others either as far as I know.
