Hello,

Thank you for this plugin, it is the cornerstone of my Obsidian workflow.

Over the last couple of months I have noticed that Tasks holds up the loading of Obsidian. I have checked the console and no errors show up. Is there a way for me to debug to determine what is holding up the task (and therefore the Obsidian) loading?

When it slows down, does it help to close the note with the searches in, and re-open the note?
Do you have any searches open when Obsidian is starting up?
- If so, how many tasks do they display, in total?
Please establish whether any of the other plugins is interacting badly with Tasks:
1. make copy of your .obsidian/community-plugins.json file.
2. then disable all plugins except Tasks
3. restart Obsidian and see what difference there is in performance
You can enable Console timing facilities in Tasks in Tasks, open the console, and restart Obsidian - to get a sense of what is going on.
- I suspect you may find a search or searches that keep getting rerun - please report back.

Hi @claremacrae,

Thank you for the guidance on enabling console timing facilities. I’ve followed your instructions and collected some data to better understand the performance issue. Here’s what I’ve observed so far:

Steps Taken

Disabled Other Plugins: I disabled all plugins except for Tasks to isolate the issue. This brought the vault’s load time down from 3 minutes to 45 seconds.
Enabled Console Timing: I enabled the console timing facilities as described in the documentation you shared.
Collected Logs: I opened the Developer Console in Obsidian and recorded the logs during vault loading with the Tasks plugin active.

Observations

Render times for some tasks (e.g., Render: jzKyrQh03E) took over 3.4 seconds, even when the default note contained only two tasks.
The console displayed a "Forced reflow while executing JavaScript" warning, which took 40 ms.
A setTimeout handler logged a delay of 57 ms.

I’ve attached a screenshot of the Developer Console output for your reference.

Could you help interpret these findings? I’d appreciate your guidance on what might be causing these delays and any additional steps I should take to address or further diagnose the issue.

While testing further, I noticed some additional behavior related to load times and errors:

Disabling the Obsidian42 - New Worlds and The Reminder plugins brought the vault’s load time down to 1 minute 40 seconds.
With these plugins enabled, I observed the "r.addChild is not a function" error in the console, which seems to involve multiple plugins, including the Tasks plugin. (see attached screenshot)

I’m not sure if these observations are directly related, but I wanted to share them in case they provide any helpful context for understanding the issue.

The only page open when I reload Obsidian is my DNP (Daily Notes Page), which currently has zero query results.

I have zero searches running during startup.
However, I do have a large number of tasks stored in my Vault from previous years. I’m not sure if the volume of tasks might be contributing to the slowdown at startup.

However, I do have a large number of tasks stored in my Vault from previous years.

I have about 17,000 tasks in my vault currently, and use the following query to get a sense of search speeds, searching the whole vault:

ignore global query
limit 1

On my new, fast Mac, that search takes 80 milliseconds.

And in fact I see in your screenshot above that the Search component of your timings is similarly small.

I have zero searches running during startup.

Then I am confused about what is covered by your first screenshot above, as it is showing Tasks searches being rendered....
