LumenPnP

Lots of development is happening for the next major release of the LumenPnP (likely a v4.0.0 release). The main priority for this version is Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and EMI/EMC.

All development for this next version is happening in the rev05-mobo branch.

Motherboard

The LumenPnP motherboard is getting an update. REV05 of the board is in progress, and we're currently spinning up the second beta of the design, getting Marlin compiled, and starting to tweak settings for the myriad of changes this new version introduces (XY limit switches, dual Y motors, integrated stepper drivers). As of 240415, Marlin has been successfully compiled for the machine, but still needs lots of edits to be functional for this version of the controller.

Frame

The frame is getting a couple new features:

  • electronics and pneumatics in a separate control box, mounted to the left side of the machine
  • separate X and Y drag chains
  • better cable management at the head
  • almost completely empty underside of the staging plate

Feeders

Motherboard

We're starting to look into a new version of the feeder motherboard with a focus on efficiency and EMI/EMC. Still very early in the process, just beginning to think about what a new version would look like.

Frame

A new version of the spool arm is in development that more securely holds the spools in place. There are also a handful of tweaks to the main frame print that are in progress, reducing friction in the tape path and helping with printability.

Firmware

A patch to the packetization method for Photon is being tested. This patch, once merged, will vastly reduce the likelihood of a feeder dropping connection. This patch has just been successfully compiled for Marlin and Photon, and will be rolled out for full testing on the Opulo line.
