Provide some kind of consistent check for whether arguments to functions that expect a valid Message are getting one, either through enabled asserts, other tests, or validation/processing.

Dealt with in 0.0.2.6 by transforming strings provided as Message arguments to functions using message. A more complete solution is part of #12.
