Currently, Atlas will try and make any schema modifications on start up for all tables in a single go, rather than waiting for schema agreement on a per-table basis. Changing this has severe consequences for underlying services, so I'd rather that we either allow for multiple schema changes (via new thrift endpoint) to occur at once in C*, or we allow schema modifications to happen in a background thread, and yet still allow us to serve requests.
