At some point in the future, some of pyct's tasks might make good candidates to run on github PRs. E.g. you could imagine running something to report or strip unwanted metadata from notebooks. Or for dealing with data tests. And so on.
Although some such services might not map usefully to tasks that can be run locally, I'm keen for as many things as possible to also be runnable locally (with any services deployed to github just being wrappers).
Note: this is future work - I've created this issue only as a place for possible discussion right now.

Sure, seems likely that's how you'd do it these days (actions came out
after this issue was written).
In general, pyctdev's supposed to make it so we could move from travis to
e.g. github (if we wanted to) without a lot of effort. However, we haven't
yet moved various config out of travis files.
