Can reproduce also with ?., which is the suggested command to preview the documentation.

Maybe connected to not restarting R in between the install and the ?. request? When I install my own package with RStudio's Install and restart button I avoid the error, but if I just use devtools::install() it throws this error unless I restart R first.

RStudio Install and restart -> ?. -> works
devtools::install() -> ?. -> throws error
devtools::install() -> restart R -> library(.) -> ?. -> works

Moving to pkgload, since it's an issue with the shim. You can most easily reproduce the problem by running pkgload::dev_help("/").

@ramiromagno in the future, it's most helpful to include a description of the problem directly in the issue, rather than linking to another issue which we have to read and process.
