If I do need to recompile it, can I have steps to do so?

I know I will need to debootstrap into a partition of chromeos rootfs type.
It's just that I am asking because there is no mention of modifying systemd or other hardware associated daemons.

You'll need to create a partition with the type chromeOS rootfs (3cb8e202-3b7e-47dd-8a3c-7ff2a13cfcec) and bootstrap your distro in the root of an ext4 filesystem on that partition. Place any squashfs files in the root of the first partition.
