Given the problems of CVE-2016-1252, HTTPS on mirrors would help improve the security of apt. Right now, there are a handful of official mirrors that support HTTPS, like https://mirrors.kernel.org, but its not well documented or easy to find which. Plus I imagine more mirrors will be adding HTTPS support, given its benefits.

Therefore, it would be awesome to have https://httpsredir.debian.org/debian as an easy and load-balanced way to use HTTPS mirrors.
