Found no template. This is a bug!

Hi ,

I am trying to run a custom command in the atlantis apply workflow. Below is my sample command. However on its execution I get the message in comment "Found no template. This is a bug!". While the command runs successfully not sure why this message is coming. We need to remove this message.

  steps:
     - run: aws cloudformation execute-change-set --profile test-dev  --change-set-name "test-change-set" --stack-name test

Any clues how I can remove that message?

What version are you using?
What atlantis server side flags and configuration do you have?
What do the debug log level logs say?
What atlantis comment are you running?
Are you providing custom markdown templates or using existing ones?
Was this an issue before or is this a new issue?

Thanks, I found the reason for the error. The cloudformation execuite-change-set does not produce any output. Seems Atlantis requires some output to be produced by the command. When I included below command, the earlier bug message went away.

I tried custom markdown templates as well. However, seems this feature was not working. Using Atlantis v0.21.0 and later. When I start the server it says --markdown-template-overrides-dir option not recognized. Is this feature fully functional in the latest release of Atlantis?

Yes. It was added in https://github.com/runatlantis/atlantis/releases/tag/v0.21.0

From the code, it looks like both the flag and env var is accessible.

Have you tried the env var? However, both should work.

I hit some problems with this feature after it was released. It mostly boiled down to the fact that the custom templates I had written had some problem or another. Loading custom templates will fail silently if there is a flaw in any of the custom templates, and the default templates will be used instead.

Oh interesting. Perhaps we need...

• better error handling
• better documentation on how to effectively use it
• able to override a single template and reuse the non overridden defaults

If you have suggestions on how to improve it, we'd love to hear it. Even better would be contributions :)
