The main justification for the snap-back animation is to make the touch gesture rotate, scale, and pan feel natural.
However, on mouse interaction it probably makes more sense to prevent people from rotating/scaling/panning the image/video out of the crop area. Or to at least give people using the component the choice whether they want the gesture to be constrained, or to have the snap-back effect. 🤔
