Request: Like the Phone App, provide a Send Button vs. Using <cr>. #2739
Comments
You can use Shift+Enter to add carriage returns. |
That helps, thanks. We all do use the phone apps, though. It would be helpful if all the apps had UI's that worked to some extent in parallel. |
I agree with adding a visible send button - people who are used to working with a mouse (ie most non-technical people) don't realize that sending should happen with the enter key. When installing Signal-Desktop for my mom, this was an issue. |
Well, I'm not your mom ... The issue for me is (1) consistency between the phone and the desktop and (2) being able to send multi-paragraph texts as with the phone. There, you do press enter twice. It's confusing to have it different with the desktop. |
No, I know that you're not my mom ;) And I agree with your reasons too, I just had an extra reason to add. |
I'd also like send button, or at least option to send with Shift + Enter and add add carriage returns with Enter. It would be good for consistency, when Android app has Enter sends option. As it is now, anyone who regularly uses any word processor or has this option turned off in mobile app, would inadvertently send parts of messages, trying to start new paragraph. It's very frustrating sometimes. Let's make Signal as much usable as it is possible. I always recommend this app to people but often those little things discourage them from using it. |
I think the absence of a send button is especially hindering when one does send files via the client. I always do search for a button to send the message I can click after I've selected a file by using the mouse obviously. |

I have to use a text editor to create a message containing carriage returns. Perhaps you would consider using a => send button instead? That would make it consistent with, at least, the iPhone app.
