  • I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates
  • I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.

Bug Description

If I have Signal running and Ubuntu updates Signal, it will crash when I want to open Preferences or About Signal Desktop (and possibly other menu items). (resubmission of #2075).

Steps to Reproduce

  1. On Ubuntu open Signal
  2. Update Signal using Ubuntu's default Software Updater
  3. Click on Preferences or About Signal Desktop (and possibly other menu items)

Actual Result:

Signal crashes/exits.

Expected Result:

The Preferences or About Signal Desktop (and possibly other menu items) screen is shown and Signal doesn't crash.

@hiqua I'll add one when a new Signal update is available.

Signal Desktop generally doesn't do a great job on Linux if you update while it's running. We could do a better job here.
