Because I'm getting fed up of sound effects interrupting drums and it isn't always feasible to turn every sound effect into FM (nor am I happy with the FM drums I manage to make).

Easier said than done, so no promises.

It will be nice being able to trigger 2 different percussion samples at once without having to merge 2 samples into one file.

Less effort for the musician, at least.

The big problem is having enough cycles to fetch and mix two channels while still doing everything else :P

Well, I'm so use to single sample DAC usage, it's not really a big deal for me.

I have my "workarounds", and that can be rewarding sometimes... as odd as it sounds.

But yeah, whatever works.
