Nonlinear elastic mechanics simulation

Hello everyone, is the underlying layer of sofa currently based on linear elastic mechanics? Is there a plug-in that can realize nonlinear elastic mechanics simulation? Thank you!

Hello !

It depends what you mean by non-linearity. There are two types :

1. Element: Currently the core of SOFA is only providing linear formulation of elements (tetrahedra, hexaedra, triangles, quads, edges). Bu a plugin proposes higher order elements : https://github.com/mimesis-inria/caribou/tree/master
2. Constitutive laws: there already exists implementation of non linear materials in the core of SOFA, with an example. But to cope for high deformations, we also provide corotationnal formulation of linear elasticity. It is less precise than Hyperelasticity but way more stable.
