I recently mapped out the exact layout and meaning of almost all GXItems for DS3. More info at JKAnderson/SoulsFormats#14.
Adding this information to DSMapStudio's SoulsFormats would allow it to show more information for material properties. Right now, only the GXIndex is displayed. Displaying the actual values would probably be a lot more useful.
Same as I already said in JKAnderson/SoulsFormats#14, I don't plan on making a PR, but you are free to code any code and data that you like.

As I said in JKAnderson/SoulsFormats#14, I have now also analyzed the GXItems of DS1, DS2, BB, SK, and ER. The GXItem descriptors I linked in the issue are now applicable to BB, DS3, SK, and ER.
Turns out, DS1 doesn't use GXItems and DS2 has its own format, so no luck there.
Ah thanks for mapping all of this. It may be some time before I get to updating model stuff but it will be good to reference when we do again. (Just making sure you know we saw this :) )
