what constitutes a tool and what constitutes a machine?

Can a tool be used/be part of a machine? how can we express that?
Can a machine be used/be part of a machine? how can we express that?

To help think of it, let's take an example, where we have

  • a piece of hardware: a laptop
  • a piece of software 1: protege
  • piece of software 2 ( runs on the software mentioned above): the Protege MERIOT extension

how to indicate that MIRIOT needs protege to run? Or that we are running Protege with MERIOT?
Are they both Tool instances?

Can a tool use tool?

What about a machine using a machine?

I think it is worth to look at the Software Ontology and see how they handled this dependencies SWO in OLS SWO in Ontobee
