How to add field for array of string.

i have a field tags stored in mongodb as array of string

{
   tags : ["vip", "local","na"]
}

I need to came up a mongodb query that uses $elemMatch contains as shown here

{ 
"tags" : { $elemMatch : { $eq : "vip" } } 
}

how can i setup the config to support a elemMatch on just array of string

I found this issue where its mention how to use config (mongoFormatOp, mongoFormatValue) but I have not found documentation on it, an example will be great.
