Would really like to see the Play/Pause button operate the opposite way ie. Pause icon is displayed when a song is playing showing that the song when be paused when clicked and vice versa the Play icon is displayed when the song is currently paused.

+1!
That makes sense, it seems to be a convention.
Even more because mobile has no mouseenter/mouseleave, so, it is better to show what the button actually does.
