Here’s my ideal remote conference

I’ve been wanting a remote conference for IBM i in the style of MS Build or GitHub Universe.

Here’s a simple check list.

• There can be many tracks, but I mostly am focused on the developer track.
• Single stream for each track. No zoom. Live onto YouTube.
• No Zoom. I finally found the platform to achieve my thoughts: restream.io. One person to maintain the stream. Speakers can join, share their screen, share their webcam. Restream handles the rest. Also, it’s all in the browser. No downloading anything to present slides or show a website.
• Simple website with links to the streams and a simple schedules.
• Short and simple talks 20-30 minutes.
• Preferable lightning talks and demos. Not slides with too much text.
• Free. It’s for the community. Speakers can advertise their business or services during their time.
• Maybe a two day event, but only 2-3 hours each day with at least 4 talks a day.
• Informal. Not made for vendors selling products or services. Made for people to talk about projects they work on or other open-source tools.
