Summary:

  • Overall, data looks really nice.
  • SPW 33 has been size mitigated so will need to be imaged.
  • SPW 25: warning in the pipeline about not enough line-free channels for continuum subtraction.
  • Evidence of line contamination in MFS images in SPW 29 & 31.
  • Some emission in the residuals of the line cubes, especially SPW 29 & 31, so these could be cleaned deeper. But not enough of an issue to stop this being a straight pass.

The extended emission on the eastern edge of the continuum image seems to be consistent with one of the VLA/MeerKAT radio continuum filaments (inside the cyan circle):

The same filament is seen in the MeerKAT 1.2 GHz continuum image (Fig. 11 of https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2022ApJ...925..165H/abstract).

A quick comparison between ACES continuum (left) and VLA C-band continuum (right, from https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2019ApJS..244...35L/abstract).
The two point sources and the two extended structures can be seen in the C-band emission.

I recleaned SPW 33 due to the divergence that Steve pointed out. I just increased cyclefactor to 2.0 (added to override_clean_commands.json in #305), which solved the issue. A preview of the peak intensity map is shown below.

@keflavich the output files from tclean have been uploaded to /upload/Sgr_A_st_ai_TM1_reclean/, and the destination is /rawdata/2021.1.00172.L/science_goal.uid___A001_X1590_X30a8/group.uid___A001_X1590_X30a9/member.uid___A001_X15a0_X16c/

As this was the only outstanding issue, I've marked this region as done.

There is currently no spw33_35 continuum image, so I solely analyzed the spw25_27 image.

All continuum images share the same compact sources and the straight filament at the top left. There are also a couple of larger scale continuum sources, one below the straight horizontal filament at the top left, and a second with a spiral arm shape in the bottom right.

However, the new spw25_27 includes much more of the extended structure in the center of the image. This structure is missing from the mfs image, but seems to be present at least in part in the old continuum images. This is most likely line contaminate line emission.
