Objective

  • Conduct a comprehensive internal review of the Generalist Repository Comparison Chart to improve clarity, transparency, and usability.

Deliverables

  • Deliverable:
    • Compared the existing attributes to a new list of attributes developed for consideration
    • Create standardized definitions of comparison chart fields, including appropriate clarifications for the community regarding jargon used in criteria. Examples of this include clear preservation policies and shared definitions for embargo, managed access, etc. Consider other initiatives to standardize data repository characteristics, such as the RDA Common Descriptive Attributes of Research Data Repositories and the OSTP guidance on Desirable Characteristics Of Data Repositories.
    • Developed a list of draft version 1 reviewers (includes DCN, Re3data, GR affiliated librarians, Datacite)
    • Develop a google form survey to collect initial feedback on attributes and definitions we have so far
    • Distribute survey for phase 1 review (just attributes and definitions) to GREI members due 10/31
    • Distribute survey for phase 1 review (just attributes and definitions) to NON GREI members due Nov 4th
    • Distribute survey for phase 2 review (includes answers to the questions from GREI repos) due 12/13
    • Incorporate responses
    • Send to CWG stakeholders for review and feedback
  • Deliverable: Create draft version 4 of the comparison chart using the standardized definitions

2024 June update:

The task group has been working Deliverable 1 since March 2024. We are 90% as the second part of this deliverable is to have a review committee give us feedback on what we have defined

  • Task 1.1 Draft is complete and was distributed to the GREI members for review. Reviews are due August 5th. The task group will resume meetings after this review is complete.

  • A Google survey is ready to be sent to another group for review: Librarians, researchers, data conference leaders. Final additions were made after the Chicago face-to-face. Should be distributed during the Week of October 6th.

Distributed the survey to non GREI members for feedback, due Nov 4th. We sent a reminder this week as we only had one reply since we sent off this survey in late October.

  • The "non-GREI" audience survey feedback was reviewed, and final edits were made to the spreadsheet.
  • A spreadsheet version is ready to send to GRE repositories to complete. The Deadline for completion is Dec 13, 2024

  • GREI repositories are completing the year 4 DRAFT. The deadline is extended, and we will continue refining the attributes and definitions based on this project phase.
