With these changes we don't get hard-faults as per #11703. I haven't narrowed it down further due to the difficulty in reproducing the issue.

Which of these changes are actually necessary is still up for debate, but this is what was required for a stack-check build to run.

Going forward we should also try actual test flying with stack check enabled (fmu-v5+).

This is still based on the exact commits the hardfault was detected on. I'll get a rebased patch ASAP.
