Participants

  • Juncheng E (EuXFEL)
  • Mads Bertelsen (ESS)
  • Aljosa Haffner (CERIC-ERIC)

OASYS collaboration with SimEx

  • Aljosa said that if OASYS can be run with scripts, then it's possible to have the synchrotron source simulation part integrated into SimEx.

WP5 KPI

  • KPI means "Key Performance Indicator".
  • We are asked by Jordi to define KPIs for WP5 to quantify the changes of influence made by this work package.
  • After discussion, we listed these 3 KPIs:
    1. Number of modules included in ViNYL service
    2. Number of partner infrastructures that have used ViNYL service
    3. Number of DOIs for simulated data (by counting datasets with "ViNYL" labels on open-access repositories like Zenodo).
  • We are looking forward to comments from other members of WP5.

EOSC service integration

  • Mads suggested that we should ask WP6 about what we need to integrate ViNYL into EOSC. Aljosa and Juncheng agreed with that.

Comments and feedback on progress and collaboration

  • Mads suggested that the assignment of tasks could be earlier and better scheduled.
  • Aljosa thought the communication is still not efficient. The collaboration is not well established.
    • Juncheng thought the usage of slack can somehow help with communication. Mads agreed, but he also mentioned that it can only help when people are really using that by turning on the notification on the phone or browser, at least checking the message regularly.
    • Juncheng said the actual collaboration might only happen when all three components are going to be integrated into one service. Before that, most tasks are done parallelly.

Revisit the upcoming tasks, milestones, and deliverables:

  • Internal milestones can be defined in an easier way if the integration plan is determined.
  • Task distributions are quite parallel for each member at the current stage.
  • D5.2 is the documented simulation API, as one part of that, Juncheng mentioned the documentation of SimEx should be improved.

WP5 meeting in Hamburg in Q1 2020

  • Mads asked whether Carsten could give a half-hour talk about the future plan for the integration of the 3 parts (SimEx, McStas, and OASYS) of ViNYL during the meeting. For McStats, it's now not clear if it is going to be included in the SimEx framework or an independent python API with similar usage habits to that of SimEx.
    • Aljosa and Juncheng agree that it would be nice to have a clear integration plan of ViNYL.
  • We think it would be great if the date can be confirmed before Xmas. To hold it in Feb. could be a good choice.
  • People to invite
    • Peter Willendrup from WP8
    • Erik Knudsen for McXtrace
    • Thomas Rod from WP8
    • WP6 (cloud service)
    • WP4 (data analysis)
    • WP3 (raw data format)

Summary

  • Juncheng presented the application cases including the effects of the water layer of hydrated molecules on single particle imaging, experimental methodology validation, and experimental design. The documentation of SimEx should be improved for D5.2.
  • Mads presented the simulation framework of McStas and demonstrated the usage of McStas-API with jupyter notebook.
  • Aljosa introduced the structure and usage of OASYS.
  • Information of background and current progress of each simulation tool was exchanged.
  • KPI was discussed in the open discussion section, it will be reviewed by all the members of WP5, and then submit to Jordi.
  • Next tasks, milestones, and deliverables were checked. We are still on track.
  • People and date for WP5 meeting in Q1 2020 were discussed for the first time.
  • How the integrated platform should be like is still unclear and required clarification.
