In a recent update to aws-sdk-go-v2 (aws/aws-sdk-go#2210), support was (silently) removed for additional spaces on the LHS of the AWS credentials file (reported here: aws/aws-sdk-go#2281). That change may be fixed/reverted, but it highlights that adding an option to not align on equals would be useful to prevent (presumably unintended) reliance on unsupported behavior.
