Firefox/Thunderbird: Code blocks with horizontal scroll would have bad background colour #70

Bug report via email from user Hans B.:

When I compose a mail in Thunderbird in the rather narrow standard window size and write HTML code in backticks a scrollbar appears after the rendering when the code line got longer than the window size. Unfortunately the background color of the style sheet ends where the original window ended

Also happens in Firefox. The problem seems be be with the overflow style missing from the <code> element (and being on the <pre> element.
