Capital info of Montenegro #439
Comments
Your suggestion makes sense to me, and the French translation looks good 👍 @Vages contributed the Norwegian translation. |
I think that simply:
should (hopefully) work.
I doubt that that's a strict language rule, just a consistent choice by the translator. |
My opinion is that technical translations, such as translations of this deck, should be as similar to the original as possible. That goes for Norwegian, so I prefer it to contain the same info as whatever the original is. As for what the translation means:
Perhaps it's just best to do as suggested and drop the "president" part of the information. Adding more and more nuances to every fact could bog down the cards, and I think naming the historical capital should be enough. The interested learner could search for more information in other places. |
I finally got around to making a list of all the translators. Not sure a wiki place is the best place 🤷 Anyway, it's there now 😄 Let me know if any of the contributors need updating: https://github.com/anki-geo/ultimate-geography/wiki/Translators |
I was about to open a PR, but I'm having second thoughts. I feel like the sentence structure starting with "while" works best when the secondary capital takes something significant away from the main capital - e.g. when the secondary capital is the "de facto" capital or the "seat of government". Here, the fact that Cetinje is an "honorary capital" doesn't take anything away from the fact that Podgorica is the official capital. This is something we had discussed initially: #205 (comment). "While ..." would work if "honorary capital" was replaced with a more concrete statement mentioning, for instance, that many government institutions are still located in Cetinje. However, I stand with our initial assessment in #205 that mentioning this would complicate things with little benefit. Now that I think of it, "while ..." might still work with some tweaking. What do you think of the following:

Oops, sorry, I meant Swedish translation, not Swedish language. As @Vages, I think the translations should follow the original as closely as possible.
I think it's better! ^^ |
I think that there would be better to add context to the capital info in Montenegro because, currently, the card shows Podgorica as the capital and the capital info talk about Cetinje. Following similar cases in the deck, my proposal is the following:
I removed some things from the Norwegian translation that I wasn't sure how to add to this proposal. I don't know who the translators are to ping them (do we have a list?).
Also, does the Swedish language omit the first part (while … is the official capital) of these kind of sentences?
