- Install Steam
- In steam, find AOE 2 HD. Buy it if you don't own it.
- The AOE 2 page will say it's only windows-compatible, but under the
...menu, there is a "compatibility" option. Select that, and you can choose a Proton version to run the game. I chose Proton 7.0. - Once you've done that, you will be able to install and run the game.
- The game will only start (at least, the first time you run it) if you are signed into Steam, and are in online mode.
