Dawdle_block_save_2021_9_10.txt
I am looking for software that limits access to sites for X minutes at a time with a break for Y minutes (specifically 30 minutes on, 30 minutes off) so that our child does not watch YouTube all day. There are ways of setting e.g. 5 hours a day but I don't want our child to watch YouTube for 5 hours in a row.

Should this feature be implemented, I would be very grateful.

Aha. I think it can already be done. If I create 24 Block sets (or at least for all the hours that my child is awake) resetting on the hour, active in each hour from their reset time I think I can limit usage to 30 minutes per hour already. I don't mind if it is e.g. 10 minutes on 10 minutes off 10 minutes on 10 minutes off 10 minutes on 10 minutes off, so long as it is 30 minutes per hour. I have set up these blocks from 8 in the morning to ll at night for only YouTube and attach the settings file as a text file. The file extension needs to be changed from .txt to .json to import it.

I don't understand the typing test yet. Ah, I have got it. I have to type x words correctly to change a setting. That is fine. It will be really difficult for my child since my child is Japanese.

Only one thing. I set the active times to the reset times. Now I can only see the active block so I can't make changes to all the blocks until that time of day. Is this really so? For example, if I want to add hulu.com to the black list, I need to wait till teach block is active. This seems non optimal. Perhaps in the drop down menu only the active block be displayed, but on the options page, all blocks be displayed.

Great!

I'm actually currently working on a full rewrite of this extension. I'm not opposed to adding this feature to it. I could implement it by allowing users to select reset periods other than the current 24 hours.

You seem to have found a workaround for now, which is great, but I can still add this feature to make it easier.

I don't really get what you mean by the question above. You should be able to edit any block set at any time, even if it is currently inactive.

This GitHub issue is about the feature request, so we should resume this discussion in email. You can send clarifying screenshots straight to my email [email protected]. I'm happy to help.
