Installing and running Beats on macOS could be simpler. I think this would help a lot with adoption.

Provide a signed installer that can be downloaded (typically this is a dmg file containing a pkg file).
Install launchd configuration files.
Provide a simple preference pane with daemon status and controls.

This is the simple pane that Nessus provides for their daemon. We could do something just as simple to start with. I would have this pane show the location of the configuration file.

Here are some screenshots of the preference pane that is included with the new MacOS installer.

The tabs that are available are based on the Beats that you have installed.
