Hi. We're a local meetups community that is built by a group of geeks volunteering their time and extremely non-commercial. It started in 2011. Our events are either free or for-charity and we don't even have a legal entity behind all of it. Here's an example of a for-charity conference result: https://summit.meetjs.pl/2022/ We're hoping to get a domain name that's not associated with one country to maybe spread the idea to other countries. By not having a formal organization behind it, we're uniquely positioned to do that in an inefficient but sustainable/resilient way. |

It sounds like it is your intent already, but as part of granting what is quite a generic subdomain (and of course @indus will make the final call on if it will actually be granted), I would ask/expect that the content does get adjusted to reflect that you're aiming to support meetups globally, not just in Poland :) |
One of my goals for 2025 is to put knowledge base on hosting a meet.js
style meetup on the site. If it's a requirement I could create the content
before we get the domain, but I don't have a lot of hobby time left this
year and I still have a charity workshop to organize 😬

The subdomain is so generic that it was included in the records_restricted list (I think - right from the beginning). So something like the knowledge base mentioned would be very helpful to bring this closer to a community driven project. "pl-meet.js.org" or "meetpl.js.org" wouldn't be a problem. But as you said, you don't want it to be associated with a single country - and I think that is a good thing. But then the content shouldn't be connected to a single country either. I would guess this could mean in th end that the event you organize may only be one entry in a list on meet.js.org but may live under something like meet.js.org/pl in the end (country-coded again 😬). I applaud your passion, I would enjoy to put "meet" into use and I'm open for any other concept. But the community aspect (open for other communities worldwide) should be a bit more recognizable before I would give out the subdomain. |
Thank you. I'll work on the big idea (on holidays if need be😅) and get back to you in this issue. meetjs.pl being the prototype of something larger and more generic sounds about right 👍 |
