Home
City-States is a WIP subgame for minetest that provides framework for multiplayer servers where greater control and organization of development is desired by admins and advanced builder, more developed economic elements are added, and players are encouraged to engage both cooperatively and competitively in gameplay which centers around survival, building and acquisition of power and status. The subgame aims to balance enhancing the best aspects of minetest-game while providing a progression to gameplay that favors persistent players with rewards of greater access to exclusive areas and unique realms, wealth, power, as well as enhanced player capabilities.
The subgame is being developed for use on a future version of the City-States server which we expect to launch shortly after the release of Minetest 0.5.0 stable.
Features under development:
City Limits: Adds core feature including control of map spread/player movements via demarcation supporting the Areas mod, multiple spawn points, automatic wiki page generation with basic info about cities, API for allowing map to be responsive to mods with reference to physical boundaries as defined by city limits.
Skill Levels: Level up in building, crafting and magic to unlock crafting of new items, open up new strange realms to explore and enhance player capabilities. Crafting advanced items may fail before you have acquired the skill necessary to craft them with 100% success rate. Building skill will unlock ability to reserve space to build in more exclusive areas on the map as well as open possibility to explore unique realms for new building materials. Advanced builders will also increase their earning potential. Building skill will be increased through a combination of quantity, quality of materials used, and peer up-voting. Magical skill will enhance player capabilities, unlock/enhance use of magical items and require engaging in a variety of activities and quests to advance. Mod includes open function to add new skills.
Jobs: Place payment amount and post jobs for other players to accept on a job board. Mod will automatically handle granting them access and transporting thme to areas where work is to be done. When the job is finished, employer will receive notification to review work and approve payment. Jobs not completed in a reasonable amount of time will automatically return to job board to seek new hires.
