Remove unused templates and dead code

I've seen some unused templates and classes/functions which I have removed. However this is a legacy code base and there are probably more such cases.

1. Find some tools to help with this task. For finding dead code I tried vulture but it looks like there are lots of false positives and no easy way to disable them. Maybe still worth a try though. I haven't found anything for templates.

2. Carefully examine the supposedly unused code and remove it!
