<??? INSERT LORE NAME> (Steampunk infrastructure)

An ancient abandoned and partially destroyed network of pipes and dungeons containing high technology steampunk equipment spanning the entire knwon elven civilization. The exact purpose of the network is not known presently, however by inserting scavenged crystals into the energy sockets the ancient abandoned machines of the dungeons and cities come alive again.

Destruction of the network

During the apocalyptic ??? event vast parts of the network were permanently destoryed or serverly damaged. With resources needed elsewhere the elfs abandoned the network permanently, leaving it to the corrupted to inhabit. Many of the knwon dungeons and caves of today are actually former parts of the network, now predominantly inhabited by monsters and other corrupted creatures.

Great guilds of the elven world

Most guilds today focus on the training, support and employment of their elven maigc practitioners.

Guilds and Dungeons

One of the main tasks that guilds untertake in this day and age is the discovery, exploration and reactivation of the old network parts, now dungeons. For this purpose some members of the guilds have specialized as surveyors, cartographers and miners. To activate the dungeons, the rare crystals that are found in the dungeons are utillized, as they are the only known compatible energy source for the steampunk machinery. The remaining crystals which are found by the members are used as magic items or sold for a high price.

Contract work

Although crystals are a great source of income, guilds also offer contractual work for their members. Many aspects of everday life require the use of magic, so if a high-level of magic is required any citizen can contract guild members or freelancers for such tasks. Because of this form of community service most guilds are held in high regards, enjoying widespread support amongst the populace.
