[UPDATE]
This problem has already been fixed on master(rust-lang/cargo#7965), and will be released as Cargo 1.43 at 2020-04-03.
On macOS, when I build tests in a lib target (with cargo test --lib --no-run), and run LLDB on the test binary, breakpoints does not work.
This problem occurs with both rust-lldb
and VSCode with CodeLLDB.
- Operating system: macOS Catalina 10.15.3
- Rust toolchain: stable-x86_64-apple-darwin
- Rustc version: 1.41.1 (f3e1a954d 2020-02-24)
- lldb: 9.0.1
- VSCode: 1.42.1
- CodeLLDB: 1.5.0

It seems to be intentional at the moment, and the binaries under deps
directories are expected to run.
But for tools like CodeLLDB, it is desirable to create a .dSYM
in target/debug/
(at least at the moment).
In this document shows a simple workaround that just create .dSYM
symlink in target/debug/
.
Please let me know if you have any unexpected side effects.
Manually create a symlink to .dSYM
between cargo test
and llvm
.
- test-workaround.sh
#!/bin/bash
rm -rf target
bin=$(cargo test --lib --no-run --message-format=json | jq -r '.executable')
# create symlink of .dSYM directory
(cd target/debug && for d in deps/*.dSYM; do ln -sf $d ./; done)
rust-lldb $bin <<- EOF
breakpoint set --name tests::it_works
EOF

If you try to do the same with VSCode (and CodeLLDB), you get:
