Environment

Windows build number: Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.18363.836]
PowerToys version: 0.18.1
PowerToy module for which you are reporting the bug (if applicable): Keyboard Manager

Steps to reproduce

In keyboard manager

  • remap left win to `left alt
  • remap left alt to left win

Expected behavior

Selected keys are remapped, other modifiers stay the same.

Actual behavior

After testing the alt-tab and alt-win with the swapped alt key, it feels like alt remains "pressed" forever. Can't type in any editbox, hitting a key that is a menu accelerator pops up the menu, presing esc switches the windows, etc.

I've combed the bugs in this repo related to keyboard manager and #3331 feels similar - that is, it's also about alt staying "pressed", although in a different situation.

@yacoob I'm unable to reproduce the error. Can you give the exact steps which caused the behavior that alt remains pressed? I tried the following:

  • Swapped left alt and left win as specified
  • Tried alt tabbing through many windows
  • Pressed Alt-Win but nothing happens on my system with that shortcut irrespective of whether the keys are remapped or not. What happens on your system when you press Alt-Win?
  • Tried typing in text editors and the menus never popped up
