Lessons Learned

Sometimes things don't go as expected due to circumstances in hardware variation, software bugs, or just human error.

Here we have compiled a list of errors or mistakes others can learn from and maybe avoid repeated discussions.

OpenAuto White Screen

Here and there we have come across a white screen being displayed when connecting a device on the OpenAuto tab. This has been found to be caused by several things.
The first is RT Audio, several users confirmed the problem is fixed by disabling this in the OpenAuto settings. The settings for OpenAuto can be found in the top right corner of the OpenAuto tab when a device is not connected. You won't see the icon when connected.

The second is if you are using a revision of the Raspberry Pi 4 not yet documented in the code of dash. We feel we have corrected this from happening again but recording this may save us or someone else some time in the future.

A new cause for the white screen has appeared. The current firmware update for the Raspberry Pi 4 seems to break H264 decoding. Currently downgrading the firmware to an earlier commit is a proven workaround.
The following command will perform the downgrade: sudo rpi-update 15471b6e99b6db2f3206f0aed67d0aebbfc9f9cf.
