The slide ones you showed here is the way Blender 3D works, and I found it intuitive, instead of having to grab a line or a dot for doing the same.
And save time as you said

@matt,

What about if you use this same kind of slides but to active them using a hot shortcut key for making changes of the SIZES on the three main tools, Pen, Pencil and Brush?

Maybe using this method.
Pressing CTRL, for example, and dragging a draw tool on any area of the canvas, will increase its size (dragging it to the right) and will decrease its size (dragging it to the left)

(... I wish I knew programming!...)

Of course yes! It's good to control pen width size by keyboard.

ps. @carlosgf , you could tag me by @chchwy , the "Matt" on Github is a different guy. :p

Bringing this to attention briefly... I would like to keep the slider but I agree that we should be able to change the interface so that it takes up less space.
In my sketch above, I'm proposing a slight change to the UI mentioned here. The proposed UI by @chchwy has no visual cue of when you hit the upper bound. The solution to this could be a popup slider of sort that will lay on top of all UI, so that it does not depend on the size of the panel. it it will be shown as soon as you start dragging and be hidden again after you let go.

Another solution could be to have a bar with the title and value integrated, this however would be limited because it depends on the size of the panel, like the current implementation. The addition of having a popup slider does not.

The only thing one loses with the proposed UI is the addition to see where the dot on the slider is currently, I however don't think that this information is vital to know all the time.
