Unlocking the bootloader

Requirements

  1. Install platform-tools from here
  2. Install adb and fastboot drivers

Steps

  1. Login to your Mi Account
  2. Enable developer options and enable usb debugging (this will come in handy later)
  3. Enter the Mi unlock status sub-menu
  4. Click on "Add account and device" (You may need a sim card inserted to the phone)
  5. After it successfuly adds your account, grab a computer (running windows) and download the miflash unlock here
  6. After logging into the program reboot your phone into the bootloader via the command "adb reboot bootloader"
  7. Click on the unlock button and unlock anyway

Troubleshooting

  1. My phone was not detected?
  • Check device management. If there is a device called "android device" with a warning icon on it your drivers are not installed properly. Install them by hand or reinstall them in the mi flash unlock app
  1. I got an error in the mi flash unlock app that goes "couldn't unlock try again in XXX hours.", what do I do?
  • You have to wait for the amount of hours it gives you.

  • MTP and PTP don't work.
