Indeed - I hate losing a hive. Did you check for foul brood? We had some in neighboring town going around because adjacent hives will rob the leftover honey and spread the pathogen.

There is free testing from the Ag service (in the US) to diagnose.

Sorry to hear that. We have two hives - one is constantly healthy and one is constantly sickly and has needed to be resurrected twice. Best of luck - stick with it! Spring (in the US) is around the corner!

@colorfuldarkgray Our local bee keeping association offers classes each winter/early spring to teach beginners what they need to know and the basic supplies that you need to start. From there, it is experimentation. It is a good hobby and you will really notice a difference in the insects, birds and butterflies that visit your yard, plus the honey is a pretty good reward! Here is an interesting article that I found on bee keeping in Mexico. I hope this helps!
