I installed Random Word Generator, not knowing about word-o-mat until I saw the deprecation notice in the README.md of Random Word Generator.

I figured some deprecation notice would point newcomers towards the latest, greatest plugin. I didn't see any precedent for this, but I thought the uppercase DEPRECATED would do. Does this work for you @djrrb?

Maybe in the future there could be something with formal deprecation and redirection like this issue describes:
microsoft/vscode#4772

hi @tallpauley,

there’s no such thing as a “deprecation notice” in Mechanic – an extension can either be or not be on the registry.

I don’t really see an issue… it looks like the README note is working just fine :)

I didn’t realize this extension was still on Mechanic, and I’d be happy to see it removed. Is there a protocol for that, or do I just submit a PR?

DJR: a PR where the file randomWordGenerator.yml is removed from the _data folder, that it...

Deprecated extensions should be removed. Abandoned extensions could be revived under robodocs.

thanks

@gferreira was just suggesting a change in extensionName and description for the random word generator extension. No “deprecation notice” mechanism, sorry if I was a bit confusing :)

Just trying to help the next clueless guy like me who installs this particular extension but doesn’t know about word-o-mat. Even just the note in the description field alone would be useful.

Update: Funny timing, looks like this is solved now :)

I think its possible to have multiple extension in Mechanic that solves similar problems. Word-o-mat and RandomWordGenerator could co-exists next to each other. There is not one single solution or one ultimate extension!

Clueless guys have to try out different things, this is also a must for clue-more persons!

but for a clueless guy, making a PR is not so clueless anymore!!

enjoy! and be safe
