This isn't full support yet, doesn't handle a lot of cases (ex: 503), but appears to be good enough to make thumbnails work and allow spliting further work if needed.

P.S. next on the list for fetching: 503 handling (over limit), better load order, may be a way to filter out dupplicate requests.
