This is not the same thing as GPT-4o - and it's updated quite often without having a date based stable ID.

https://twitter.com/openaidevs/status/1823510395619000525 from 13th August 2024:

This model is also now available in the API as chatgpt-4o-latest. We recommend gpt-4o-2024-08-06 for most API usage, but are excited to give developers access to test our latest improvements for chat use cases.

https://twitter.com/edwinarbus/status/1890841371675619728 confirm that the alias was updated to a fresh model last week:

same update, but we were delayed in updating it in the API (it was updated last week, which is why I think people are noticing/we are seeing evals now)

It's chatty and likes emoji and claims to have a June 2024 cutoff:

% llm chat -m chatgpt-4o
Chatting with chatgpt-4o-latest
Type 'exit' or 'quit' to exit
Type '!multi' to enter multiple lines, then '!end' to finish
> What can you do?
I can help with a variety of tasks, including:

✅ Answering general knowledge questions
✅ Providing explanations for complex topics
✅ Offering study help and subject guidance
✅ Summarizing articles or textsW
✅ Generating creative writing or content ideas
✅ Helping with coding and debugging
✅ Giving productivity and organization tips
✅ Recommending books, movies, or music
✅ Assisting with everyday problem-solving

Just ask, and I’ll do my best to help! 😊
> When is your training cutoff?
My training data goes up until **June 2024**. I can provide information and answer questions based on knowledge available up to that date, but I don’t have real-time updates on current events. Let me know how I can help! 😊

It supports vision:

llm -m chatgpt-4o 'describe image' -a https://static.simonwillison.net/static/2024/pelicans.jpg

The image shows a large gathering of birds, primarily consisting of brown pelicans and shorebirds, densely packed on a rocky shoreline next to a body of water. The pelicans, with their distinctive long beaks and large throat pouches, are prominent among the smaller birds. The scene appears to be in a natural habitat, possibly a coastal or estuarine environment. The calm water in the background reflects light, and the rocky terrain provides a resting spot for the birds. The birds are seen in various postures, some resting, others preening or interacting with each other.
